Midway vs. Adrian

The Midway Vikings played against the Adrian Blackhawks on September 1 for Midway’s home opener. The Blackhawks scored the first and only time in the first quarter with a run play and a good PAT, ending the quarter with a score of 0-7. The Vikings posted the only score in the second quarter with a run by Jake Purtle, but missed the PAT. The half ended with a score of 6-7. The Vikings got the upper hand in the third quarter with a touchdown on a run by Ike Riggs, but missed the 2-point conversion, ending the third quarter with a score of 12-7. Adrian gained the last score of the game with a run and a good PAT, which ended the game with a score of 12-14.

On offense, the Vikings had a total of 205 yards. The Vikings had 199 rushing and 6 yards passing. Purtle led the team in rushing and rushing yards with 27 carries for 132 yards. Josh Yahnig had 8 carries for 21 yards, and Riggs and Xavier Mendoza both had 7 carries for 27 yards. Yahnig went 1 for 4 on passing for 6 yards to Mendoza.

On the defensive side of the ball, Justin Hineman and Mendoza led the time with 5 unassisted tackles, Riggs with 4 unassisted, and Austin Evins and Purtle both with 3 unassisted tackles. Brandon Chandler lead the team with 5 assisted tackles, Spencer Smith with 4 assisted tackles, and Riggs, Thomas Endecott and Riley Bridges each with 3 assisted tackles.

The Vikings punted 3 times for 73 yards, averaging 24.3 yards a punt.

The Vikings will face off against the Appleton City Bulldogs on Sept. 8th. Kickoff is at 7.
