Vikings VS. Whirlwinds

The Midway Vikings traveled to face off against the Archie Whirlwinds on Friday, August 25. The Vikings fell to their opponent for the second week in a row with a final score of 0-37.  Archie was the first to score with a 1-yard run and a 2-point conversion. This would be the only score in the first quarter making the game 0-8. The Whirlwinds scored three times in the second quarter with another 1-yard run, a 2-yard run, and a touchdown pass.  The Whirlwinds went for 2-point conversions on the first two and kicked a field goal on the last one making it a score of 0-31. The Whirlwinds only scored once in the third quarter with a kick return and missed the field goal to end the game with a score of 0-37.

The Vikings’ offense rushed for only 64 yards and threw for 87 yards. Jake Purtle ran the ball 13 times picking up 36 yards. Josh Yahnig threw 4/19 for 55 yards. Xavier Mendoza went 2/6 on receiving for a total of 17 yards.

On the defensive side, Mendoza led the team in 6 unassisted tackles with Purtle in second with 3 unassisted tackles. Ike Riggs led the team with 11 assisted tackles, the closest person to that was Purtle with 5 assisted tackles and Riley Bridgers and Moses Morrison with 4 assisted tackles each. There was only one punt and it was by Yahnig for 46 yards.

The Vikings face off the Adrian Blackhawks September 1 at Midway, kickoff starts at 7.
