Vikings Hunt Down Bobcats

The Vikings faced off against the Drexel Bobcats on Friday, September 15. The Vikings scored in the first quarter with a quarterback sneak by Josh Yahnig with the PAT being good. This would be the only score in the first quarter. Drexel got their first score in the second quarter with a run up the middle and the 2-point conversion being no good, making the end of the first half 7-6. The Vikings scored first to start the second half with a pass from Josh Yahnig to Braydon Anderson, but the PAT being no good. Drexel answered back with a run outside but the 2-point conversion was no good, ending the third quarter with a score of 13-12. The Vikings had the only scores in the fourth quarter and to start off was Yahnig with a scramble to the left side with the the 2-point conversion being good. And the last touchdown was by Xavier Mendoza with a run outside and the PAT being good. This ended the game with a score of 28-12.

The Vikings had a total of 263 yards on offense, 148 of that was rushing and 115 was passing. Leading the team in carries was Jake Purtle with 15 for 54 yards, not far behind was Mendoza with 10 carries for 65 yards and then Yahnig with 5 carries for 13 yards. Yahnig went 9 for 11 on passing with an 81% completion rate. His most targeted receivers were Mendoza and Anderson both with 3 catches, Mendoza had 51 yards and Anderson had 31 yards.

On the defensive side Mendoza lead the time in unassisted tackles with 5. Austin Evins, Justin Hineman, Purtle, and Riggs all with 4 unassisted. Driggs finishing the game with 3 unassisted tackles. Thomas Endecott had 7 assisted tackles, Riley bridgers, Driggs, and Mendoza finished with 5 assisted tackles. Riggs finished the game with 4 assisted tackles. Cameron Stricker had 1 interception being the vikings first interception of the season.

Punting the ball, Riggs had 1 punt for 57 yards and Purtle also had 1 punt for 11 yards.

The Vikings will be traveling to Butler to face the Bears on Friday Sept. 22. Kickoff is at 7pm.
