Vikings Declaw The Bears

The Vikings traveled to Kansas City to face off against the Kansas City East Bears. The first quarter was scoreless for both teams, but in the second quarter the Vikings scored off of a pass from Josh Yahnig to Dawson Driggs with the PAT attempt being good. The Vikings scored again off of another pass by Yahnig, but this time to Xavier Mendoza with the PAT being good again. The Vikings scored a third time with a short run up the middle by Jake Purtle but the PAT was no good. KC East scored at the end of the quarter with a short pass with the 2-point conversion being good, ending the first half with a score of 20-8. Both teams were scoreless in the third quarter, making the game still 20-8. The Vikings had the only score in the fourth quarter with another pass from Yahnig to Driggs with the PAT being good, ending the game with the score 27-8.

The Vikings’ offense had a total of 362 yards, 182 yards was rushing and 180 yards was passing. Purtle led the team in carries with 20 for 85 yards, behind him was Mendoza with 11 carries for 44 yards, then Blake Scholl with 7 carries for 27 yards. Yahnig went 11 for 16 in passing, his most targeted receiver was Ike Riggs with 4 catches for 40 yards, then Driggs with 3 catches for 71 yards, and Mendoza and Braydon Anderson with 2 catches, Mendoza had 26 yards and Anderson had 43.

The defense looked good Saturday holding the Bears to 147 total yards. Mendoza and Purtle led the team with 4 unassisted tackles. Riley Bridgers and Austin Evins both ended with 2 unassisted tackles. Many Vikings defenders had on 1 unassisted tackle. Boog Chandler, Bridgers, and Riggs all had 6 assisted tackles. Dylan Bayard had 4 assisted tackles. Cameron Stricker, Spencer Smith, Purtle, and Driggs all had 3 assisted tackles. Chandler had 3 sacks, Bridgers with 2, and Dalton Phillips had 1. The Vikings defensive backs finished the game with 4 total interceptions. Yahnig with 1, Mendoza with 1, and Justin Hineman with 2.

Riggs had 1 punt during the game, punting the ball 34 yards.

The Vikings, for their Senior Parent Night, will line up in front of the Sherwood Marksmen on October 13, kickoff at 7pm.
