Vikings Skin the Tigers

The Midway Vikings faced off against the Rich Hill Tigers for the Vikings’ homecoming game on Friday, September 29. The Vikings scored first with 6:57 left in the first quarter with a 2-yard run up the middle by Austin Evins and Mayson Adams made the PAT attempt. The Vikings scored again in the first quarter with 1:24 left with a 1-yard run up the middle by Riley Bridgers with M. Adams making another PAT, ending the first quarter with a score of 14-0. The Vikings came out in the second quarter to score with a pass from Josh Yahnig to Jake Purtle with 8:53 left in the half with M. Adams making the PAT again, ending the first half with a score of 21-0. The Vikings scored late in the third quarter with a 2-yard run by Blake Scholl with 1:24 still on the clock and M. Adams made the PAT, with no scores in the fourth quarter the final score is Vikings 28 and Rich Hill 0.  

The Vikings had a total of 340 yards with 223 being rushing yards and 117 being passing. Xavier Mendoza and Purtle led the team in carries with 9 each, Mendoza had 109 yards and Purtle had 19. Behind them was Yahnig with 7 carries for 72 carries. And lastly was Scholl with 4 carries for 9 yards. Yahnig went 8 for 10 on passing for 117. Dawson Driggs and Purtle both had 2 catches, Driggs went for 44 yards and Purtle had 10 yards.

The defensive had a great game keeping the tigers to a total of only 99 yards. Justin Hineman, Purtle, Ike Riggs, and Spencer Smith all with 3 unassisted tackles. Branden Chandler had 2 unassisted tackles. A lot of the Vikings defense got 1 unassisted tackle. Riggs led the team in assisted tackles with 4. Kaylob Adams, Austin Evins, Purtle, and Spencer Smith all had 4 assisted tackles. Lots of Vikings had 3 assisted tackles. Mendoza finished the game with 1 interception, Yahnig had 2 interceptions to end the game.

The Vikings go up to Kansas City East to face off against the Bears Saturday, October 7. Kickoff will be at 1 P.M.
